Heartwood Path is a companion piece to me sculpture Sapele Passage. Both a wood sculptures that explore void, or absence juxtaposed with solidity as positive space. I see the negative space in this sculpture as not only physically opening the solid wood to the word and to experience, but I also see it this space as a place of travel, be it visual, emotional or physical.
To the physical end, I see these pieces as depicting a passageway, a path through the voids one might choose to travel, hoping to not be draw to, or fall into the unknowns that surround you on your journey.
