About zz-Red Amnis I

The Red Amnis I is the first of what will be a family of gently undulating wall mounted sculptures. Unlike my Wave-series wall sculptures, which are single layered and have a greater number of more defined and similar, repeating, abrupt 'waves'. This Amnis pieces is multi-layered and undulates gently, more like the curves in my Bastion, free-standing sculptures. This sculpture is in fact inspired by my Bastion sculptures, which are interpretations of mountain ranges. For the Aminis-type works I will be letting the underlying forces the shapes and form mountains be the source of my inspiration - the movement of land masses and water.

In the end, I want these pieces to exist almost as geological and natural snapshots or fetishes. I want the viewer to be looking at a newly formed fossil of sorts, a contemporary record of a process or event that never happened, but may have, or might.

Since creating Red Amnis I, my Escavada sculpture, and sculptures like Lion and Ouzel and Tanima have been created using similar techniques and inspirations
