Sky Dune was inspired by time spent in Great Sand Dunes National Park. The incredible dunes, radiant in the sun, are a beautiful sight to behold. Walking among the dunes is a transcendent experience. One can also experience this at White Sands National Monument, where I have also spent time hiking.
I use the term 'Sky' for many of my mirrored sculptures because of the reflective nature of those surfaces, which is vast and brings the idea of expansive, almost infinite space to mind. When hiking amid the dunes there are two things that overwhelm you; the dunes themselves, and the expansive sky.
